Dynamic Team Building: A Values-Based Approach for Greater Collaboration, Unity, and Respect.
On Demand
Personality conflicts, inherent diversity, unfamiliarity, insecurity, cognitive bias, differences of opinion, challenging market dynamics, ambiguity…and the list goes on…can make building and maintaining a cohesive, collaborative team a constant challenge.
This course delivers a values-based team exercise to address conflict issues. During the exercise, team members will discover and appreciate who their fellow teammates really are. This training goes beyond the casual or surface-deep team building exercises.
By focusing on values, every member contributes what they value most and how those values influence their thinking and behavior. The individual values are then collated into a set of team values that guide how members can ideally interact and address differences. A collaborative "value set'' forms a team's unique identity that helps the individuals develop a sense of ownership for its members and results.
Values are at the core of each individual's motivation. Individuals behave and make decisions that reward and support what they value. A runner will still get up at 5 am and run in a cold rain if "health" is a substantial value. A manager with a value of "growth" may play a more hands-on role in developing her team versus a manager that values "autonomy." By cultivating a set of team values, you are designing a blueprint for team motivation to collaborate and communicate respectfully.
As part of the exercise, the values will be translated into representative behaviors. Laying out these "rules of engagement" in advance can help you overcome conflict and get a team back on track more quickly.
As a new manager, a manager inheriting a team with conflict, or a manager who wishes to prepare his team for greater collaboration, this exercise will provide a valuable return on your time investment. With a smaller team (~10 or fewer), you can expect the exercise to take around 4 hours. With more people weighing in (or if a higher level of conflict exists), the exercise can run longer. It's customizable to your specific situation.
