Overview

Are you a good listener?  Most people actually rate themselves as “above average” when the reality is otherwise. And yet, this is probably one of the most critical interpersonal skills to improve your personal and professional relationships and as well as success.

This course will help you understand what an effective listener does that makes them actually above average (and it might surprise you).  Some of the issues are that many people have an outdated definition of what a good listener does as well as a skewed mindset of the process.

We will review the fundamental listening skills but will also dive deeper to ensure that the people you interact with feel truly understood, not just heard.  We will also explore how to take the conversation and create insight, solutions or action.

Additionally, the course covers the barriers to effective listening and what you can do to overcome these barriers.  Included in your learning are several exercises that can be used anytime or anywhere to continuously improve your skills.

Learning Objectives

  • Dispel the myths of “good listening” to become a more effective communicator.
  • Master the fundamentals of effective listening as well as adopt several advanced level strategies for effective listening to avoid conflict, enhance empathy and improve your relationships.
  • Discover your barriers to effective listening and how you can overcome them.
  • “Flip” your listening skills to be heard in a conversation to avoid misunderstandings and approach sensitive topics.
